If you’re going out camping or hiking, then a rechargeable hand warmer can be a lifesaver. Although disposable hand warmers still work fine too, nowadays they’re not really necessary, as you can easily get a rechargeable hand warmer instead.
Of course, the benefit of a rechargeable hand warmer is that you can use it again and again. Not only this, but if you purchase the right one, them many of them will double up as a power bank too. So, you can keep your phone charged whilst you’re keeping your hands warm too.
So, what’s the best option that’s currently available? Well, let’s take a quick look at a few of the options that are currently available on the market.
Best Rechargeable Hand Warmer
Celestron Firecel Plus
- 3-in-1 device: portable power pack, red and white LED flashlight, and hand warmer
- Large capacity 5200 mAh rechargeable lithium ion battery charges smartphones, MP3 players, cameras, and many other USB-powered devices
- Bright red and white LED flashlight with 5 modes: red light only, white light only, red light blinking, white light blinking, SOS
The Celestron Firecel is one of the best hand warmers that you can currently find available on the market. You can find it in two different capacities of 2500 and 5200 mAh, but I prefer the 5200 as it has a much better battery life.
Why do I like the Celestron Firecel? Well, it’s not just a handwarmer – it’s a 3 in 1 product, so it works for more than just keeping your hands warm. It can also be used as an LED light as well as a power bank, which makes is ideal for those that are trying to save some space. All of this packed into one small item can help to reduce the amount that you have to carry around with you significantly, which helps a lot. The LED light has various different settings, which can be extremely useful for letting others know where you are.
For a rechargeable hand warmer, it heats up very quickly, which is one of the most important things you’ll want from a hand warmer in low temperatures. It comes with a carrying pouch too, which makes it easy to hold whilst you’re using it. Overall, as an all round choice that can be used as a torch and power bank as well, this makes an awesome choice.
Zippo Rechargeable Hand Warmer
- Charges USB compatible devices including; mobile phones, Mp3 players, tablets, cameras, etc
- Dual sided heat up to 120°F / 50°C operating temperature with five (5) heat settings for adjustable and comfortable warmth
- Battery and heat indicator lights
Zippo generally produce some good rechargeable hand warmers, and they vary in their sizes and battery life. The smallest battery life that they make is 2 hours, whereas the longest is 6 hours (the one I’ve recommended here) – this will really depend on what you need. This can reach up to 45 degrees celsius in temperature, and it also doubles up as a power bank too.
Unlike some other cheaper hand warmers that are out there, this Zippo is actually going to work for the displayed length of time. It has different settings for heat, so on low you’re going to get a good few hours use out of it. On higher settings, it won’t last as long, but it will still last a good few hours. And whilst the 5200 mAh battery isn’t going to fully recharge your laptop several times, it’s definitely good enough to top your phone up if it’s dying.
Overall, this one proves to be another good option if you’re looking for a decent rechargeable hand warmer. Like any other Zippo product, it’s of a decent quality, so you won’t have to worry about it breaking within a few weeks of purchasing it!

The majority of handwarmers are made in Chinese factories, and although some people aren’t aware of it, this goes for big brand names like Zippo and Celestron too. So, sometimes it can make sense to go for cheaper Chinese brands that you might not have heard of before. Often, their product will be very similar to that of the more expensive brands, so it might not be worth paying out the extra.
Hand warmers aren’t just made for camping and hunting – they can also come in handy for other activities, like when you’re playing golf – it can make an awesome golfing aid, as it will keep your hands warm. You can also use it for treating sore muscles and arthiritis too, which this model is particularly good for due to it’s ergonomic design.
One thing that I particularly like about this hand warmer is that it’s particularly fast to warm up. This is great on really cold nights and evenings, so it might be a good choice.
Survival Frog Hand Warmer
- KEEPS HANDS WARM: Your hands are the most vulnerable in the cold, and these electric handwarmers put out enough heat to keep them warm even in freezing temperatures.
- LONG LASTING: Runs continuously for 2-4 hours depending on which temperature it's set at. That's enough time to last a full workday, long car ride, or hiking trip.
- RECHARGEABLE: When it runs out of power, simply plug it in and recharge it. This is much more cost effective than disposable hand warmers which only last a couple hours and then get thrown in the trash.
Like the hand warmer above, sometimes it can make sense to go for the cheaper options available as they are very similar in the way that they’re made.
The one is made by a brand called Survival Frog, and although it’s intended for camping and hiking, you can still use it for a variety of other things too. One of the main reasons that I’ve included this model is that it’s extremely small in comparison to some of the other hand warmers available. This means it’s a good choice if you’re looking for something that you can keep in your jeans pockets easily if they’re tight.
Like most other rechargeable hand warmers, it also doubles as a power bank. It’s also good because of it’s simplicity, as it only has one button – other more complex warmers can be frustrating, as if it has a lot of buttons, you can easily press them accidentally. So if you want something simple and easy to use, then this would make a great choice.
Zippo Refillable Hand Warmer
For some people, a rechargeable hand warmer isn’t going to be your best bet. And if you’re out in the wild for long periods of time, then it might be worth looking at something slightly different. A good example of this is the Zippo Refillable, which as you might of guessed, isn’t battery powered. It uses regular zippo lighter fluid, which makes it a good choice if you want something that’s guaranteed to work – Zippo has been one of the most trusted lighter brands for a long time.
It can last for up to 12 hours and it can get hotter than a rechargeable, so it’s only fair that it gets a mention in a list of hand warmers.
What to Consider When Buying a Hand Warmer
When you’re buying a hand warmer, there are a couple of things that you might want to take into account beforehand. Doing this can ensure that you get something that suits your needs, as not everything is going to be right for you. Although they are all similar, there are a few key differences between them.
The majority of batteries that you’ll find in hand warmers is 5200 mAh – this stands for milli-Ampere-hours, which just indicates the amount of battery that can be stored on the device. The amount of battery will usually last a good few hours, and it’s sufficient for a hand warmer.
Whilst the majority of hand warmers are relatively small in size, they do vary somewhat. Depending on exactly what it is that you need, it might pay the purchase a smaller hand warmer as opposed to some of the bigger options that are currently available.
One of the main reasons that I like the Celestron Hand Warmer is that it’s multi use. Not only can it double up as a power bank, but it’s also a torch too – not a particularly powerful one, but it’s very useful for letting people know where you are with light signals.
Overall, these are just a few of the best rechargeable hand warmers that you’ll find online. There isn’t a great deal between them, so don’t spend too much time deciding on which one would be best for you. A hand warmer can be the difference between an enjoyable hunting or camping trip and having to turn around, especially if you’re in extremely cold conditions. So, it’s worth picking one up if you think you might need it.
