If you’re looking at two of the biggest manufacturers on the market in terms of RC cars, then two names that are going to spring to mind are Traxxas and Redcat Racing. Though their products are pretty much everywhere on the market, they’re both very different in terms of their products.
Depending on what you’re looking for, one of these brands is likely to be a far better option for you than the other. Whether you’re a beginner in terms of RC cars or you’ve been driving them for years, they both offer something different. Of course, you’ll want to look at the individual model from each brand to make sure you’re getting the right option for you. Even though Traxxas are known to be the most prestigious brand and they make some great drifting cars, that doesn’t mean that all of their models are better than all Redcat models.
So, let’s take a look at the two brands so that you can decide which might be a better option for your needs.
Traxxas vs Redcat Racing
Generally when you’re comparing the two, it’s pretty easy to draw a line between them. Traxxas are well known as the best of the best and if you’re looking for a premium RC car, then they’re one of the brands that you’re going to want to check out. They’re over 30 years old, so they have a lot of prestige.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Redcat Racing are actually a really young brand if you look at things in perspective. They’ve only been around since 2005, and essentially they focus on getting cheaper Chinese made parts and RC cars and providing them to Western audiences. If you’re a beginner or you’re new to RC cars, then it makes sense to go for a cheaper brand like Redcat Racing.
This doesn’t mean that Traxxas don’t provide some good cheap options too – if you’re trying to get a low priced RC car, then that doesn’t mean you should rule out bigger brands. You just need to consider other options – maybe purchasing them secondhand if you can’t find them online.
Redcat Racing – Blackout XTE
Redcat Racing make a wide host of different RC car models for you to choose from. They do make premium models too, but generally they’re more focussed on the mid-range sector. If you’re looking to step up a level or you even want a decent entry level beginners RC car, then it’s a good idea to start with Redcat Racing. Although you might think they’re lower quality because their products are all Chinese, this is actually an advantage, as it makes things much cheaper for the rest of us (besides, Traxxas and a lot of other companies all get their parts from China anyway).
One of my favorite Redcat Racing models is the Blackout XTE , which is an awesome off roader that’s up there with the best of the low priced off roaders. It’s good for newbies to off road driving, particularly because it’s low cost and extremely durable. It’s at a 1/10th scale, which makes it a pretty decent size. It comes ready to race out of the box, which is a massive advantage over more expensive RC cars, as usually you’ll need to order the car and the batteries and accessories separately.
It’s a pretty safe option for the entire family, because it’s easy to drive and you don’t need to worry about having any difficulties. For beginners, it’s an ideal choice for a first RC car in my opinion.
Traxxas – Stampede
Although Traxxas tend to be more expensive and have a range of high grade RC cars, they still have some decent lower cost models too. One model that you could compare to the XTE is the Stampede , which is a decent choice if you’re looking for a monster truck. You can pick it up in both a 2wd and 4wd, though the 4wd is usually a little more expensive.
The Stampede is a great option for beginners. It’s extremely long lasting, and the handling is great (it is much better on the 4wd drive version due to the better suspension, so bear that in mind). At higher speeds, the 2wd will struggle to turn quickly, but the 4wd turns well even at max speed. So for younger kids or entry level, 2wd might make sense – but if you want the full experience, the 4wd is a better option.
Overall, these two brands are both worth considering for completely different reasons. If you’re an intermediate or advanced RC car racer and you’re looking for the next level, then you’ll want to consider a Traxxas, especially if you’ve never owned one before. Traxxas make some of the fastest RC cars available, so if this is what you’re after, then you’ll want to check out some of their card (the XO-1 is a beast!).
However for the beginner or those looking for something cost efficient, then Redcat Racing aim to give you exactly that. You can also look at other brands like Tamiya or even HPI racing, too.
